In 2020, Blockade undertook a comprehensive demolition project at the New Malden Shell Garage in Surrey. The objective was to clear the site for future redevelopment, which involved tearing down existing structures, excavating redundant fuel tanks, and remediating the site.
The project began with demolishing the shop, forecourt, and canopy associated with the garage.
Blockade’s team approached this phase with a focus on safety and efficiency, ensuring that all structures were dismantled systematically to minimise disruption to the surrounding area.
Following the demolition, the next step involved breaking out all slabs and footings from the site. This process required careful planning and execution to ensure the safe removal of concrete while preparing the ground for the subsequent phases of development.
A critical aspect of the project was excavating and disposing of nine redundant fuel tanks that had been used on the site. Blockade’s experienced team managed this task precisely, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations for safely handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

Once the tanks were removed, Blockade crushed all hard arisings, repurposing the materials for potential reuse on-site. This sustainable practice contributed to reducing waste and promoting environmentally responsible construction methods.

Finally, Blockade carried out comprehensive remediation of the entire site, addressing contamination issues and ensuring the land was suitable for future development. As part of the remediation process, a piling mat was installed to provide a stable base for any new structures.
